How Do I Check My AI Search Visibility?
Test your target queries manually in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. There is no automated tool equivalent to Google Search Console for AI search — visibility testing requires running the queries yourself and recording which businesses appear.
The query set to test: your primary category + your city ('plumber in Edmonton', 'general contractor Calgary'), problem-based queries ('who should I call for roof repair'), and comparison queries ('best accounting firm for small business in Alberta'). Record which business appears first, whether yours appears at all, and what reason the AI gives for the recommendation.
Do this monthly and track changes. The businesses that appear in month one may not be the same in month three — AI sources update as review profiles and web content change. A business building reviews and improving its site structure should see measurable improvement in which queries it appears for over 60–90 days. If visibility is not improving after 3 months of active AEO work, the strategy needs diagnosis, not more patience.
