How to Get in the Google Local Pack

Google Local Pack ranking depends on three factors: relevance (does your business match the query), distance (proximity to the searcher), and prominence (reviews, citations, website authority). You can't control distance, so relevance and prominence are where the work is — complete GBP category and services, 40+ reviews above 4.3, and consistent name/address/phone across directories.

The relevance work: choose the most specific primary GBP category for your business type, complete the services list with every service you offer (category and description), and use your business description to explicitly name your service categories and city. Google reads these structured fields to determine relevance match — businesses with incomplete or generic category information rank for fewer queries.

The prominence work: review count and rating are the most controllable prominence signals. Citation consistency — your name, address, and phone number matching exactly across Google, Apple Maps, Yelp, Yellow Pages, and industry directories — is the second. A business listed as 'ABC Plumbing Ltd' on Google but 'ABC Plumbing' on Yelp and 'ABC Plumbing & Heating' on Yellow Pages sends inconsistent signals that reduce local pack rank. A citation audit, finding and correcting discrepancies across the 30–40 directories that matter, typically produces measurable local pack improvement within 60–90 days.
